A deep clean is a longer list, not a harder scrub

Nearly every cleaning company sells a deep clean and very few of them will tell you what is different about it. The honest answer is not that somebody tries harder. It is that the list is longer: surfaces that are deliberately left alone on a routine visit because doing them fortnightly would be spending your money on something that does not need doing.

Inside the oven. Behind the fridge. The grout, the tracks, the vents, the tops of things. Below is what is actually on the list, and how to tell whether your property needs one.

Shower glass, taps and tiling left clear of hard-water scale after a deep clean.

The list

What a deep clean covers that a routine visit does not

This is the general shape of it. The actual scope is set against your property before the work is quoted, because a two-bathroom condominium and a five-bedroom house with tile throughout are not the same job in any respect.

Kitchen

Inside the oven, inside the microwave, inside and behind the fridge where it can be moved safely. Cabinet fronts degreased and the insides of cabinets and drawers wiped out. Extractor filters, the top of the cupboards, the splashback grout, and the gap beside the range that collects everything.

Bathrooms

Hard-water scale off glass, taps and shower heads; grout worked rather than wiped; extractor covers taken down and cleaned; the underside and hinges of the seat; the skirting and the floor edge behind the door where a routine mop does not reach.

Floors and edges

Tile and grout treated as a surface in its own right, skirting boards wiped down their length, corners and stair nosings done by hand. On this coast that last one matters more than it sounds: sand collects in nosings and edges and a vacuum pass does not lift it.

Glass, tracks and screens

Sliding door tracks cleared out properly — the paste of sand, salt and grit that builds up in them is what eventually stops the door running. Interior glass, screens where they can be reached safely, and window sills and frames.

Air and the things above eye level

Vent and return covers, ceiling fan blades, light fittings and shades, the tops of door frames and wardrobes. In a humid climate these are where dust becomes something stickier, and they are invisible until somebody looks up.

Soft furnishings and detail

Upholstery vacuumed including under the cushions, bed frames and under beds, behind and beneath furniture that can be moved without risk. Switch plates, handles, remote controls and the other high-touch things that get missed precisely because they are small.

Whatever the scope comes to, it is written down before the visit and confirmed item by item as it is completed — that is the Veyra Standard. On a job this size it matters more than usual, because “deep clean” is exactly the kind of phrase two people can agree on while picturing different work.

When it is worth it

Six situations that genuinely call for one

And by implication, when it is not. A house on a fortnightly schedule that is keeping up does not need a deep clean every quarter, and we will say so rather than sell you one.

Before recurring cleaning starts

If a house has been without regular help, the first visit starts from behind. A deep clean gets it to level so the routine visits maintain it rather than chase it — which is cheaper over a year than paying for extended routine visits that never quite catch up.

At the end of a rental season

A property that has turned over every week since March has had thirty competent turnovers and no time for any of this. The shoulder season is when the tracks, grout, vents and appliance interiors get dealt with before the next season buries them again.

Opening or closing a second home

A house that has been shut up through the summer humidity needs more than an arrival clean, and one being closed for months is better closed clean. Usually paired with second-home care rather than bought alone.

Before people judge the house

Listing photographs, an appraisal, a family Christmas, a party. Anything where the house is about to be looked at by somebody who did not live through the mess.

After something happened

A long illness in the house, a building job that was tidied but not cleaned, a tenant who left it rough, a period when nobody had the capacity. There is no judgement in the quote and there is none on the day.

When the routine clean stopped being enough

The commonest sign is that the house looks fine on the day and tired by Wednesday. That is usually not the cleaner — it is the layer underneath the routine visit that has never been addressed.

On this coast in particular

Salt, sand and humidity do specific things

A deep clean in Ohio is mostly about dust and grease. Here there are three extra materials working on the house all year. Sand is abrasive and it migrates — into stair nosings, grout lines and door tracks, where it stays. Salt air spots chrome and hazes glass. Humidity turns ordinary dust into something that sticks and gives mildew a foothold in any bathroom whose extractor is not doing its job.

None of that is dramatic in a month. Over a season it is the difference between a house that looks maintained and one that looks tired, and it is almost entirely in the places a routine visit is right not to touch.

Where a floor or a piece of furniture needs more than cleaning, carpet, upholstery and tile cleaning is quoted separately and honestly — we will tell you when that is what you actually need.

Where we work

The whole corridor, resort and residential

Deep cleans run everywhere Veyra works: 30A and South Walton, Destin, Miramar Beach and Panama City Beach.

It is frequently bought as the first visit before recurring house cleaning, or at the end of a season on a rental property, or alongside second-home care when a house is being opened or closed up.

Tell us what state it is in

Honestly, including the bits you would rather not mention. It changes the quote and it does not change how we feel about the job. We will scope it, price it in writing, and tell you if a routine clean would genuinely do.
